A symposium on the work of legal professionals in foreign-related trials was held by the Supreme People's Court (SPC) in Beijing on Feb 17.

Zhou Qiang, president of the SPC, urged for unremitting efforts to improve the capacity and efficiency of legal professionals in foreign-related trial work, so as to promote law-based governance and support the country's higher-level opening-up.

Zhou pointed out that the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has made a raft of decisions and arrangements on the development of legal professionals working in foreign-related trials since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, which has guided Chinese courts to better improve their work in this regard.

The SPC has prioritized this work, improved the work mechanism, and made progress in the field, Zhou said, adding that more efforts should be put into personnel training and  building of judges’ capability in handling foreign-related cases.

At the symposium, representatives of judges specializing in foreign-related trials vowed to further improve their professional skills and better perform their duties.
