Themed as “Innovation, Communication, Open & Development, Common Prosperity”, the symposium this year promoted projects and communication between Beijing and Hong Kong in technological innovation, urban development strategies, culture, and city governance. There were 15 events -- four major activities, nine themed activities, and two exhibitions and investment consultation activities.
Acting mayor of Beijing Chen Jining and Chief Executive of Hong Kong Carrie Lam attended the opening ceremony. Chen said that the Beijing- Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium has signed over 500 contracts in the past 20 years, with a total value of over 75 billion dollars. Beijing and Hong Kong have been cooperating in technology, finance, trade, real estate, city governance, environmental protection, and ensuring people’s livelihoods.
Lam said that Hong Kong has been working closely with Beijing in trade. Hong Kong ranks first in investment in Beijing, and Hong Kong is the top choice for Beijing investors. By the end of September this year, 380 Hong Kong enterprises were established in Beijing, with a total investment of 9.8 billion dollars, 80 percent of the capital’s outside investment. Beijing has invested over 26 billion dollars in Hong Kong, 44 percent of that city’s outside investment, of which 2.3 billion dollars went into 80 Hong Kong enterprises.
Chen said that Beijing and Hong Kong will enhance cooperation and promote the development of the two cities.
More than 1000 delegates from Beijing and Hong Kong took part in the event.
