Beijing International Design Week opens
The opening ceremony of the 2017 Beijing International Design Week was held at China Millennium Monument on September 21.
The 2017 Beijing International Design Week was held from September 21 to October 7. It aimed to promote the ideas of “design capital, smart city” and “design plus”, and included ten major events such as exhibitions, classic design awards, a Beijing Design Forum, a design innovation service conference, and Fashion Beijing. More than 1000 cultural creative activities were held during the week highlighting the role of design in promoting economic transformation, cultural heritage, high-end industries, and upgrading of industrial structures.

The 2017 classic design awards was one of the week’s traditional events. After a pre-selection, first review, second review, and final review, six works were nominated for the final 2017 classic design award, which was won by China's Jiaolong manned deep-sea submersible.

Four exhibitions were held during design week, which welcomed designers, enterprises, and the public from all over the world. The broad vision of the week promoted development of the design industry and industrial transformation in Beijing and in China as a whole.
