The basketball event of Sichuan province's first employees' games tipped off on Oct 27 at the Guangyuan Aoyuan Sports Center's gymnasium.

The competition features two categories: middle-aged and youth groups, adopting a five-player team format. It has attracted 55 teams from 42 departments across 21 cities in the province, with 800 participants, including team leaders, coaches, and athletes. Among them, there are 42 youth groups and 13 middle-aged groups, with 644 athletes participating in the five-player team games, while 66 have registered for the spot shooting contest and 62 for the skills challenge.

The competition spans five days. Teams advancing to the top eight through the first five rounds will compete in the finals from Oct 30 to 31. The spot shooting and skills challenge events will be held on the afternoon of Oct 29, and the closing and award ceremony will take place on Oct 31.

Guangyuan has been promoting the integrated development of sports events, sports leisure, and cultural-tourism partnerships in recent years. It has hosted major events such as the 13th Games of Sichuan Province, the National Women's Basketball Championships, and the Sichuan Provincial Employees' Swimming Competition.
