In Sichuan, finding an autumn-viewing destination is easy – but if you're looking for a free autumn retreat with sparse crowds and stunning scenery, Yanjing River Gorge in Wangcang county is simply unbeatable.

Located in Wangcang county, Yanjing River Gorge boasts over 40,000 mu (2,667 hectares) of primeval forests adorned with vibrant autumn hues.

Starting from the gorge entrance, a dedicated red leaf viewing platform is accessible every five minutes or so by car.

The third stop, Diexin Valley Camping Base, serves not only as a scenic overlook but also offers camping, dining, and accommodation services. Visitors are encouraged to stop here for lunch before continuing their journey uphill.

From the first viewing platform at Yuxi Stone to the final photo checkpoint at Azalea Peak Summit, different species of red leaves create a striking color gradient.

Light orange tints the valley floors, crimson blankets the mid-slopes, and deep browns cover the mountain tops–providing visitors with a multi-layered autumn experience.

As vehicles wind along the mountain roads, travelers are treated to an immersive scene where "the car moves through scenery, and passengers feel immersed in a painting".

The optimal period to appreciate Wangcang's red leaves and colored forests is between late October and early November. Yanjing River Gorge invites visitors to explore this "autumn-exclusive" natural wonder and capture its seasonal charm.
