The recent May Day holiday sparked a flourishing tourism scene in East China's Shanghai – as visitors streamed into all its attractions, injecting vitality and exuberance in the city's cultural and tourism sector.
Statistics show that on May 1-5, the Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort – located in the city's Songjiang district – welcomed a whopping 485,200 visitors at its 12 monitored scenic spots, up a hefty 8.19 percent on last year.
Thrilling themed activities held at different attractions captivated holidaymakers. One of the highlights was the sixth Shanghai International Orchid Show at the Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden.
The exhibition – which runs to May 12 – features over 200 varieties and more than 20,000 orchids, including rare and endangered species from Africa and the Americas, as well as the once-lost Houcuichan orchid.
Elsewhere, the China Fun Cultural Festival held at Shanghai Happy Valley kept the excitement alive, offering evening sessions and a special children's day event featuring B.duck – a celebrity IP designed by Eddie Hui in 2005. The festival is scheduled to run to June 10.

Adding to the fun and frolics, the Guangfulin Cultural Relics Park presented the Get Happy with Guangfulin on May 1 event, treating visitors to folk performances, themed markets, prize-winning check-ins and much more.
