Two scenic spots in Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort, which are Tianmashan Mountain and Xiaokunshan Mountain, started offering free tickets to people aged 65 or older on Sept 1.

Discounted tickets are also available for those aged 60 to 65, according to the resort's announcement.

Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort is known as the "backyard garden of Shanghai". It is home to many popular destinations in the city, including five 4A-level tourist attractions and three five-star hotels, offering various tourism options for all ages throughout the year.

The 100.2-meter-high Tianmashan Mountain is the highest peak among the nine peaks in the Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort, and spans 724.8 mu (48.32 hectares). In ancient times, there were many Buddhist palaces and temples on the mountain.

Tianmashan Mountain boasts a natural ecological system, beautiful natural scenery, and rich cultural heritages. The bamboo groves and diverse plant species create fresh and vibrant scenery, which attract crowds of visitors from across the country every year.

The most famous scenic spot on the Tianmashan Mountain is Huzhu Pagoda, which surpasses the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy in terms of age and tilt.

The ancient pagoda was built in 1079 during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127) by a military general and tilts to the southeast at an angle of 7.1 degrees. Italy's Leaning Tower of Pisa was built in 1173 and its tilt is nearly 4 degrees.

With a height of about 18.8 meters, the seven-floor octagonal pagoda is made of wood, mortar and bricks, and is located halfway up Tianma Mountain. Currently, the pagoda is a heritage site under the protection of the Shanghai government.

Xiaokunshan Mountain has a height of about 50 meters. It is known as the birthplace of many famous poets and boasts a 500-year-old gingko tree at Jiufeng Temple, which was built during the Song Dynasty (960-1279). Jiufeng Temple is a typical Buddhist structure and a perfect place to admire both traditional Chinese architecture and gingko trees.
