The Wonderland Eye, which is the largest Ferris wheel in Shanghai's Songjiang district, was officially put into operation on Jan 15.

The facility is located in the Wonderland Area theme park and is adjacent to the InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, the world's first underground hotel that was built in an 88-meter-deep quarry.

The Wonderland Eye's location provides a 360-degree view of the quarry. Riders on the Ferris wheel will be able to enjoy a bird's-eye view of the lowest five-star hotel that has ever been built in the world, the bottomless pool in the quarry as well as the waterfalls spilling down the quarry walls.

Beautiful views of the mountain range and forests in the Shanghai Sheshan National Tourist Resort can be seen as the Wonderland Eye circles to the top.

The Ferris wheel is about 48 meters high and has 26 carriages that are able to carry four people each. It takes about 11 minutes to ride one full circle on the wheel.

The Ferris wheel is open from 10 am to 6 pm. People can use their Wonderland Area entry tickets for one free ride on the wheel. The entry ticket fee for the Wonderland Area is 130 yuan (US$ 20.53) per adult and 65 yuan per child.

There are also other entertainment facilities in the theme park such as Shanghai's first glass walkway that was built on the edge of a cliff.
