The popular TV series I Will Find You A Better Home has just made InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland a trending topic on the Twitter-like social media platform Sina Weibo.

The series stars a group of real estate agents chasing their dreams in Shanghai, and tells realistic stories of different families trying to buy their ideal homes.

In the latest episodes, a wealthy client wants to buy an underground luxury apartment that few have heard of. However, genius real estate agent Fang Sijin, played by Chinese TV drama queen Sun Li, manages to find a five-star apartment located on the negative 17th floor of InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, a famous underground hotel at Sheshan Resort.

Dubbed a "pit hotel", the structure boasts 17 floors cascading down a rugged cliff, with the two lowest levels being underwater. The hotel features a spectacular glass waterfall with observation lifts inside. [Photo/WeChat account: sheshanlvyoutopnews]

This isn’t the first time the hotel has gone viral on social media. In October 2019, the hotel was called a "new national landscape" in a show produced by China Central Television.

Designed by British architect Martin Jochman, InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, or Tianma Pit Hotel, is the world's first underground hotel to be built on the site of an abandoned quarry.

The hotel stretches 88 meters underground and was listed as one of the architectural wonders of the world in National Geographic Channel's Mega Structures series due to its pioneering design.

The entire construction process was filmed for the Mega Structures TV series, which was broadcast in more than 200 countries and regions.

With an elegant modern design that accentuates the unique features of the original quarry landscape, all 336 rooms and suites provide spacious, luxurious living rooms with spectacular views of the hotel's signature waterfalls and surrounding cliffs.

By paying 400 yuan ($57.38), guests can take a ride in a helicopter and view the hotel in its full glory. [Photo/WeChat account: sheshanlvyoutopnews]

All bottom-floor rooms in the hotel receive round-the-clock room service.
