Annual water lilies exhibition underway until Sept 18

The annual water lilies exhibition is being hosted by the Chenshan Botanical Garden at the Sheshan National Tourist Resort from Aug 18 to Sept 18.

The event includes eight different sub-exhibitions displaying more than 300 varieties of water lilies. Lily enthusiasts also have the chance to get a closer look at some rare species like N.stellata, N.'Jakkaphong and N.'Tropic Star', which are on view in Shanghai for the first time.

The exhibition also displays some typical aquatic plants, popular in the Jiangnan area, south of the Yangtze River, including Zizania, gorgon fruit, water chestnut, and arrowhead.

In addition, some colorful activities will be held during the event like "baby sitting on water lily leaf" scheduled for Sept 15 where children weighing under 30 kg can experience sitting on a giant victoria amazonica leaf.

Tickets for the Chenshan Botanical Garden are 60 yuan ($9). The garden opens at 8 am and closes at 5.30 pm. Visitors can get there by taking Metro Line 9, getting off at Dongjing station and then transferring to Songjiang No.19 bus or the No.96 to Chenshan Botanical Garden No.1 Gate.
