Get off at Qibao Station and quickly find yourself in Qibao Ancient Town, a typical riverside spot with low-rise houses of white walls and black roof tiles lining both sides of the river, and stone bridges spanning the water. [Photo/Wechat: sheshanlvyou]

Qibao Ancient Town can satisfy your curiosity about ancient water townships without the bother of traffic jams, pollution, noise, or the rush of crowds. There are temples and diversified folk activities such as cricket fighting shows, shadow plays, as well as a great variety of snacks that will attract your eye and tempt your palette when you are walking the streets of the old town.

Today, you can still experience the original Shanghai customs and atmosphere dating back 3,200 years ago in this ancient town. Here, you can see antique roofed houses with white walls and black tiles that line up closely along the narrow, two-meter wide street. Quiet courtyards scatter among the residences. On entering the secluded deep yards, you will see the typical antique gardens south of the Yangtze River.
