As the weather gets warmer and flowers begin to bloom, it is time to get out to enjoy the spring breeze and to watch green buds sprouting. From April 4 to June 1, Shanghai Happy Valley will launch a Spring Outing Festival full of exciting events.

Located about 40 kilometers west of downtown Shanghai, Shanghai Happy Valley is renowned for beautiful scenery and rides such as the Diving Coaster and Shoot the Chute.

Some 200,000 of the pinwheels will be displayed in the city’s largest theme park, delighting tourists with their vibrant colors and invoking their sweet memories of childhood.

The history of Chinese pinwheels goes back about 3,000 years, when they were widely used on farms during harvest season because the bright colors and sounds scared away birds from the crops. The pinwheel then became a traditional Chinese toy and it was widely believed that when a pinwheel rotates it brings happiness and luck to all those who see it.

The pinwheels rotate against a background of blooming flowers, such as cherry flowers, camellia, Hydrangea and gardenia.

During the festival, more than 30 shows are played every day, including slam-dunk show, jazz concert and funny sideshow.
