Spring comes to Sheshan

At a time when spring is in the air, Shanghai's Sheshan National Resort offers a tourist guide to admire flocks of inviting flowers.

Full bloom season: Late Mar to mid April. Venue: Jiangqiu village, Sheshan.

Jiangqiu village in Sheshan has vast fields of peach trees in more than 10 varieties, covering nearly 200 mu (133,333 square meters). When the month March sets in, pink or red waves of flowers signals the approaching of spring and offer a spectacular early-spring scenery.

Full bloom season: Mid-Mar to mid April.

The Chenshan Botanical Garden has a viewing area for cherry blossoms at the east side of Gate 1, opposite to the Malus spectabilis garden. It is home to nearly 60 varieties of cherry blossoms or ornamental cherries. Mass-planted cherry trees are presenting an overwhelming sea of flowers, together with avenues that stretch hundreds of meters with early-blooming Kawazu-zakura and Yoshino cherry.

The botanical garden has been hosting an international orchid exhibition as well, presenting over 50,000 orchid plants including the famous Chinese paphiopedilums, Vanda coerulea, Phalaenopsis and Phaius tankervilleae. The exhibition this year is scheduled for Mar 28 to Apr 12, where residents can have a goodsight of various orchids.

Meanwhile, at the end of April, Sheshan will come up with its first Chinese rose exhibition, offering a charming view of over 800 varieties on the mid-lake island.

The best time of appreciating plum blossom is 10 days around the Waking of Insects (3rd solar term in Lunar calendar), which falls on Mar 6 in 2015. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

Apart from those, plum trees of various colors in the botanical garden are blooming out recently with pleasant fragrance. Rape flower fields alongside the Tianma Mountain are also reaching their best season to bloom like a golden sea.
