When Shanghai's Sheshan National Tourist Resort held a charity walk with the theme "Caring for the Elderly through Action" on Nov 22, 252 families volunteered to take part, collecting total proceeds of more than 120,000 yuan ($19,520) on the same day.

Each family, including at least one child between 4-12 years old, started their walk from East Sheshan Park at 9:30 am. They competed on two routes, a 5-km route and a 10-km route.

Families who walked 5 km could get a certification. Eventually more than 150 families walked 10 km.

The proceeds will be used for the noble cause of donating to elderly empty nesters, widows, or those suffering from some form of dementia or disability.

The sponsor of the activity was the Shanghai United Foundation.
