Shanghai botanical garden gets award for its advanced approach to science

For Shanghai's Science and Technology Festival 2013, the Chenshan Botanical Garden held some innovative popular science events and, thanks to its effort, it has earned both the 'Advanced Group' and 'Advanced Individual' awards, according to a wrap-up meeting for the National Science and Technology Week and the Shanghai Science and Technology Festival, on July 10.

On May 16-17, the botanical garden hosted a 2nd International Chenshan Botanical Garden seminar, which attracted more than 100 scholars and specialists from around the world, who came to discuss the development of botanical gardens. Then, on May 18, it announced the Agricultural Biotechnology Communication Platform, to promote popular science education, and gave visitors a chance to see a 'Transgenic technology and human lives' exhibition and attend a lecture on this topic. Later, on June 15, as part of the series of activities, Ma Jinshuang, of the Chenshan Plant Science Research Center, spoke to the public in 'Discovery and cultivation of the metasequoia'.
