Chenshan Botanic Garden is preparing colorful activities to celebrate the coming Dragon Boat Festival on June 12.

From June 10-12, tourists are welcomed to participate in the traditional activity of making perfumed medicine bags stuffed with organic herbs from the Botanic Garden. The event is free and open to all, and tourists are welcomed to take bags (200 bags for each day) home.

Roughly 2,000 years ago, it was a tradition to wear perfumed medicine bags in China. It was considered by the ancients as an effective way of preventing disease and evil while promoting good health and well-being.

Science tours to the Aquatic Botanical Garden will also be organized. Tourists can book a group tour by sending a private message to Chenshan Botanic Garden's official weibo (@csnbg), a Chinese version of Twitter. Groups are limited to ten people, and the meeting point is the information center of gate one. Visitors will be taught about the interesting viability of plants and will see the beautiful flower of the Dragon Boat Festival - hollyhock.

Dragon Boat Festival, which occurs on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, is a traditional and statutory holiday in China. The best-known traditional story holds that the festival commemorates the death of poet Qu Yuan (c. 340–278 BC) of the ancient state of Chu during the Warring States Period of the Zhou Dynasty (475-221 BC).
