Five kinds of tropical orchids have been planted in the greenhouse of Chenshan Botanical Garden, offering visitors a beautiful "Orchid Banquet." The orchids include cattleya hybrida, oncidium luridum, moth orchid, vanda miss joaquim and dendrobium varieties.

The orchid is well-known by botanists as one of the most evolved flowering plants. The flower has a beautiful shape, brilliant color and aromatic smell, as well as parts developed through years of cooperative evolution with pollinating insects, including the lip, gynostemium and pollinum.

Cattleya hybrida originate from tropical regions in South America and are mostly found in Brazil and Colombia. Their flowers rsemble an sexy Latin lady. The oncidium luridum has golden yellow flowers that resemble a flying golden butterfly. The vanda miss joaquim hangs between branches, leaves or roots and features different colors. The paphiopedilum pfitzer is a type of dendrobium originating from Asia. It is also called the "lady's slipper orchid" due to the flower's similar shape.

Chenshan Botanical Garden has invited famous Taiwan orchid experts to guide orchid maintenance and incubation after a large tropical orchid show was held in 2012. The efforts will help the garden prepare for the 2013 international orchid show.
