A "Tour Chenshan on Chong Yang Festival" activity will be held in Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden during Oct 23-25, with discount tickets provided.

During the period, the garden will give ticket discounts or free tickets to the elderly over 60. The garden will also offer free tickets to couples married for 30 years, and present a free passport for a walk in the garden to seniors over 60.

Chong Yang Festival is celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth month in Chinese Lunar Calendar; it is known as the Double Ninth Festival. In the Book of Changes, the number nine is regarded as yang and the ninth day of the ninth month is a double yang day, hence the name Chong Yang Festival.

The festival began as early as the Warring States Period (475-221 BC). It was officially designated as a folk festival during the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) and has remained so to this day. On Double Ninth Festival, all relatives customarily climb mountains to avoid disaster and appreciate chrysanthemum flowers. Due to the climbing custom, Chenshan Mountain will also receive many climbers during the holiday.
