The Sofitel Shanghai Sheshan Oriental Hotel opened its new outdoor swimming pools to the public at the end of April, after a renovation project that cost more than six million yuan ($941,000) and took five months.

The pools cover a total area of 4,500 square meters, with a new pool spanning 1,100 square meters. Guests now have free access to the main pool, a man-made sand beach, a children's pool and two outdoor spas.

The beach has now doubled in size and the sand has been carefully selected and imported from Vietnam. Children can even build sand castles while their parents nap on a beach chair or enjoy the man-made blue water and flowery islets.

Those staying on the first floor can get to the pool area directly from their balcony, just steps away from the invitingly cool water. There are shallow pools, 1.2 meters deep, decorated with small bridges, arbors, rockwork, and islets. The area creates a fairyland for both children and parents to play together.

If visitors find themselves exhausted after all that swimming, they can relax in a sunken chair in the water and enjoy a drink from the poolside bars. The hotel will provide you a holiday with not only beautiful scenery, but also special cocktails, exciting parties, music and an outdoor barbecue.
