On June 5, the very first US student, Katherine from Connecticut College, started her internship at the Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden.
Katherine majors in Chinese and Botanical research, she will continue a 10-week internship in the botanical gardens. Katherine plans to conduct her research in areas including plant systematics, horticulture and conservation, Chinese herbal medicine, and gardening in both rock gardens and medical plants gardens.

She also mentioned she'd like to know more about the Chenshan Botanical Garden and study the design style of classic gardens in Shanghai and east China's Zhejiang province, as well as, plant conservation.
Chenshan is a comprehensive botanical garden, it provides opportunities for students to gain experience from training and interning. Katherine is the first group of students that the botanical garden selected from the US after three interns from the Lufthansa School in Hamburg, Germany joined them in March, 2012.
According to the research, more students from the major universities in Shanghai city are considering internships all over the nation. Meanwhile, Chenshan Botanical Garden is seeking the opportunity to attract more international students. They hope to assist students from different cultural backgrounds to gain knowledge and work experience. This will increase the botanical garden's global reputation and help to promote the development of science popularization in China.
