The primary shipping business has been enhanced and solidified

Since the launch of Shanghai’s International Shipping Center Initiative, the primary shipping business has been growing rapidly. In 2014, 760 million tons of cargos were shipped via Shanghai port, down 2.6 percent. 35.29 million containers were shipped, 5 percent higher than the previous year and still world No.1. In 2014, 655,000 flights landed or took off in two airports of the city, transporting 89.66 million passengers and 3.61 billion tons of cargoes, which is 6.6 percent, 8.3 percent and 7.4 percent higher than the previous year respectively. Pudong International Airport ranked No.3 in terms of cargoes shipment. In 2014, 1.28 billion mails were delivered in Shanghai. 35.1 percent higher than the previous year and achieving 100 million mails per month for the first time. Revenue of express delivery services totaled 36.13 billion yuan, up 40.3 percent. Meanwhile, China Shipping and COSCO Container Lines, top 10 shipping companies, are headquartered in Shanghai. Global top 20 liners have established branches or offices in Shanghai. The city has 250 representative offices for international shipping and auxiliary services. Nine of the biggest classification societies have set up representative offices in the city.

Construction of integrated transportation system has achieve major progress

Since the launch of Shanghai’s International Shipping Center Initiative, integrated transportation system has been optimized. Construction of road, port, river, railway and airport infrastructure is progressing smoothing and the integrated development of multiple transportations has been achieved in terms of scale, consolidation and efficiency. In 2015, 520,000 TEUs shipped via river transportation, 85.93 percent higher than the previous year. The growth of river-sea relay was higher than container shipment growth. Although the sea-rail relay volume was low compared with total container shipment, it was growing and reached 94,900 TEUs in 2014, 10.55 percent higher than the previous year.
