Specialty industry driving rural growth in Shandong

Morel harvest season recently arrived in Nanyu village in Mazhuang town, Tai'an, Shandong, meaning villagers are busy picking in the sheds of the cooperative.
As a dual-purpose fungus used for medicine and food, morels are in high demand. Nanyu village has relied on its local resources and well-suited climate to grow the mushroom, bringing considerable economic benefits to villagers.
Currently, Nanyu village has five morel planting sheds, which are expected to produce more than 200,000-yuan ($27,614.2) worth of morels.
In the future, Mazhuang town plans to strengthen technical training, explore deep processing and brand building, and expand new channels for increasing the incomes of villagers. The successful success of the morel industry has injected new momentum into Nanyu village's rural vitalization effort and has made villagers prosperous.
