An "International Language Village" project was launched at Wohushan Primary School in Daiyue district, Tai'an on March 29.

The project integrates the lived experiences of primary school students with commonly-used dialogues from English textbooks, allowing students to practice English in real-life situations such as at supermarkets, clinics, and television stations, depending on the grade level of the student.

"I believe that the environment is very important for learning English. Immersion offers a completely different learning experience and is popular among the school's teachers and students," said Fu Shengjuan, principal of the school.

Mei Deming, professor from Shanghai International Studies University and Yang Lu, a primary school English research fellow at the Shandong Provincial Institute of Educational Sciences, jointly unveiled the project.

Mei praised the project as an experimental reform of the English school-based curriculum. It effectively applies the knowledge learned from textbooks in a real-life situation, stimulating interest and enthusiasm among students.

In the future, the "International Language Village" will also play an active role in promoting Chinese abroad and exchanges between schools.
