Xintai, a county-level city of Tai'an, held the first-ever tai chi chuan performance at the Binhu Square on May 13.
More than 50 representative teams from all over the country, consisting of over 1,200 Tai Chi Chuan enthusiasts dressed in white uniforms, delivered an impressive performance showcasing the unique charm of Chinese martial arts.
“Xintai has attached great importance to sports in recent years and has been focusing on building a higher-quality public fitness service system. Tai chi chuan, as a world-class intangible cultural heritage item, is impactful in promoting the physical and mental health of individuals, as well as the harmonious coexistence of people,” said Wang Cui, vice-mayor of Xintai.
Xintai, home to a large number of tai chi chuan enthusiasts, is one of the first cities to be awarded the honorary title of "National Tai Chi Chuan Village for the Elderly" by the Chinese Veteran's Sports Association.
The "Taishan Cup" Tai Chi Chuan Invitational Tournament, which followed the performance, saw over 800 tai chi chuan enthusiasts from different age groups compete in various programs, such as tai chi chuan and competitive martial arts.
This event has created a positive social atmosphere promoting sports and good health, which is of great significance for promoting a virtuous and healthy lifestyle.
