Li's Sugar Painting, an intangible cultural heritage (ICH) item of Ningyang county, Tai'an, was staged at a Chinese New Year celebration event held in Belgrade, capital of Serbia, during the recent Chinese New Year holiday, presenting the unique charm of Chinese folk culture and ICH.

At the event, Li Ranran, the sixth-generation inheritor of Li's Sugar Painting, demonstrated the process involved while introducing the craft's history and methods to both Serbian and overseas Chinese people.

"Sugar painting is edible and is the sweetest old craft," said Li. She has been studying it for many years and has created her own style combining traditional art skills.

Within one minute, Li created vivid shapes of birds, fish, and flowers with melted sugar, which attracted visitors to try their hands at it at the event.

The event was organized by the Chinese Embassy in Serbia, the government of Serbia, the Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Belgrade China Cultural Center.
