A news conference was held in Tai'an, East China's Shandong province on June 23 to officially unveil the regional round of the 2016 Miss Tourism International and the 2016 Tai'an tourism ambassador competition.

The winners of the contest will work to promote the best of Tai'an to the rest of the world.

As an important part of the 30th International Mount Tai Climbing Festival, set to open in September, the event is co-sponsored by the municipal tourism association and Tai'an radio and TV station to promote the city's ancient culture to the world.

Currently, Tai'an is dedicated to building itself into a popular tourist destination at home and abroad, and members from the local government stressed that a fashion icon could play an important role in developing regional tourism.
