Pichai Yard, the origin of Qingdao's street culture, recently saw a resurgence in popularity after 121 years of changes.

Founded in 1902, Pichai Yard in Qingdao's Shinan district was a street community centered around Jiangning Road. In the 1920s, it developed into a commercial district, becoming a popular destination for Qingdao residents.

By the 1940s, it had become the first gourmet destination in Qingdao, known for its famous local foods such as wonton, fried pancakes, steamed buns and tofu pudding.

No 10 Jiangning Road was the center of Pichai Yard, featuring entertainment stages, teahouses, and various snacks and desserts. It attracted performers from all over the country, making it a bustling folk entertainment hub at that time.

Over the years, Pichai Yard has faced challenges and undergone changes. In the 1980s, it was a top dining street, but it quieted down in the late 1990s due to the shift of the city center. However, after renovations in 2009, it became a popular folk tourism destination.

It is currently home to 16 restaurants, 25 stalls and five cultural scenes.
