Overseas media explores Qingdao's thriving film hub
A media delegation composed of journalists from countries including South Korea, Egypt, France, Cyprus, and Brazil paid a visit to the Qingdao West Coast New Area (Qingdao WCNA) on Nov 19, experiencing firsthand the vibrant energy of the region's film and television industry.
As China's first UNESCO city of film, Qingdao has established itself as a key player in the global cinematic landscape.
The delegation toured the Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis in Qingdao WCNA, an internationally certified studio complex known as the "cradle of Chinese sci-fi blockbusters" and the filming site of major productions such as The Wandering Earth series and Creation of the Gods. Equipped with 40 international-standard soundstages and 32 professional workshops, the facility offers comprehensive, high-end production services to filmmakers worldwide.
Leng Gengling, photography director of World China Press, noted that the advanced technological infrastructure, including virtual production platforms and underwater filming centers, lays a solid foundation for film industrialization.
"These developments reflect the growing vitality of China's film industry and its rapidly improving capacity to produce large-scale productions," she remarked.
The group also visited the North Micro-dramas City in Qingdao WCNA, where they were impressed by its efficient one-stop service model. With six dedicated service centers covering operations, content review, and script development, along with over 100 shooting scenes, the base provides full-chain support from concept to final edit. It has already hosted the production of hundreds of short dramas, many of which have become domestic and international hits.
Liu Li, a member of the media tour, observed that the region fosters parallel growth in both traditional and emerging sectors of the industry.
"With long-term planning, a well-developed industrial chain, and rich filming resources, the area is poised to attract more content creators and share Chinese stories in widely accessible formats," he said.
The two-day media visit, themed around the district's cultural and coastal charm, aims to showcase the international profile and creative dynamism of the Qingdao WCNA as a leading national-level new zone.
