The Qingdao municipal government recently rolled out a guideline to promote the high-quality development of intelligent construction to boost the transformation and upgrading of the construction industry.

Implementing robotics, AI, big data, the internet of things, and other innovative construction technologies, intelligent construction can significantly improve the quality of buildings and infrastructure, save costs, and improve safety.

For a long time, the construction industry mainly relies on the input of resource factors and large-scale investment to drive development, giving rise to low labor efficiency and significant energy and resource consumption. According to Qingdao officials, intelligent construction will promote transforming and upgrading the traditional construction industry and achieve high-quality development.

The city has carried out intelligent construction pilot projects, and the application of BIM technology promoted prefabricated buildings and strengthened the construction of smart factories and the application of information technology in the whole life cycle of engineering construction projects.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) creates and manages information for a built asset using an intelligent model and a cloud platform. It integrates data and analysis to optimize design, construction, and operational performance.

"In recent years, Qingdao's construction industry has continuously reformed and innovated, and its output value has steadily increased, making important contributions to the city's economic growth," said an official from the city's housing and urban-rural development bureau, adding that the city will ramp up efforts to boost the whole industrial chain of intelligent construction.
