The figure was achieved after the recent release of the sci-fi comedy Moon Man, which was shot in the Oriental Movie Metropolis, and earned over 3 billion yuan at the box office.
Three blockbusters from the Oriental Movie Metropolis made the top five box office list for sci-fi movies in the Chinese mainland, including The Wandering Earth, which came in first place with revenue of around 4.69 billion yuan.
The Oriental Movie Metropolis is now home to 756 film and television enterprises and has welcomed more than 200 crews so far. Its virtual production platform has played a huge role in the early development of sci-fi blockbuster production.
In the China Movie Metropolis Competitiveness Index Report (2021) released by the China Economic Information Service last year, the comprehensive competitiveness index of Qingdao West Coast New Area was ranked third in China.
