Qingdao Intl Sailing Week, Marine Festival begin
The 13th Qingdao International Sailing Week and Qingdao International Marine Festival kicked off on Oct 10 at the Olympic Sailing Center in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province.

In her speech at the opening ceremony, Zhang Xiaodong, president of the Chinese Yachting Association, said that the association will continue to support the development of sailing sports and related industries in Qingdao. She also expressed hope that sailing will help Qingdao become a world-renowned sports city and a national sports center city.
Li Quanhai, president of World Sailing, which is the sport's international governing body, expressed hope that Qingdao will make full use of its natural resources, foster local sailing brands, and strive to become a renowned city for sailing in the world.

Lasting until Oct 16, the sailing events of Qingdao will consist of more than 30 activities covering sailing competitions, exchanges, cultural and tourism promotions as well as business and trade.
A series of events, including the China Sailing City Super League 2021 (Qingdao), the Mayor Cup Regatta, and the Qingdao International OP Sailing Camp, will take place in Qingdao.
Established in 2009, the Qingdao International Sailing Week was approved by the General Administration of Sport of China, and has gained international influence.

Qingdao, which hosted sailing competitions at the 2008 Olympics, boasts a spectacular oceanfront that is suitable for all kinds of water sports.
The city is now one of the most well-known sailing hubs in China. Authorities in the city have learned from other cities with strong sailing heritages such as Kiel in Germany to develop a deeper sailing culture and promote the city.
