The "Shandong Port Cup" Fairy Coast Peninsula City Regatta started on Sept 10 in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao, Shandong province.

Eight teams and nearly 100 athletes set out from the Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center to complete in a 20-day voyage covering 1,040 nautical miles.

In addition to Qingdao, the contestants will stop in another six cities on the Shandong Peninsula, namely Binzhou, Dongying, Weifang, Yantai, Weihai and Rizhao.

The event, jointly organized by the Qingdao Major International Sailing Events (Festival) Organizing Committee, the Shandong Port Group and the sports bureaus of participating cities, is expected to foster ties between the seven cities on the Shandong Peninsula and promote the sailing industry.

A number of sailing competitions, cultural performances, tourism promotions, as well as economic and trade activities will also take place.
