Print PrintEast China's Shandong province recently donated 100 ICU beds to designated medical institutions in Huanggang, one of the hardest hit cities in Hubei province, amid the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, local authorities said.
Shandong officials said that the ICU ward beds will be used to treat critically ill patients in Huanggang.
According to local authorities, 20 ICU beds worth 32 million yuan ($4.56 million) will be allocated to Dabie Mountain Regional Medical Center, a new center affiliated with the Huanggang Central Hospital that began providing services for novel coronavirus patients on Jan 28. It is known as Huanggang’s version of Xiaotangshan Hospital.
Xiaotangshan Hospital, located in Beijing, was an "instant infirmary" hastily built to treat patients infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) in 2003.
Another 80 ICU beds worth nearly 100 million yuan will be added to designated hospitals in Huanggang's counties (county-level cities) of Tuanfeng, Xishui, Qichun, Wuxue and Huangmei, as well as the Huanggang Maternity and Child Healthcare Hospital.
In addition, Shandong also donated five negative pressure ambulances to designated hospitals in Tuanfeng, Xishui, Qichun, Wuxue and Huangmei.
Shandong has already sent 12 medical teams consisting of over 1,700 members, including medical personnel, psychologists, and disease control experts, to aid Hubei. Shandong medical teams are mainly working in hospitals in Wuhan, Huanggang, Ezhou, and other cities.
