Weihai intl food expo produces fruitful results

The four-day Weihai International Food Expo came to an end in Weihai, East China's Shandong province on June 24, with onsite sales totaling 35.3 million yuan ($5.12 million), a year-on-year increase of 7 percent.

The expo attracted about 163,000 visitors and 2,300 professional buyers from 15 countries and regions. It generated orders of intent worth about 1.9 billion yuan reached, a year-on–year growth of 9 percent.

The expo brought a multitude of different cuisines from around the world for domestic customers, while also serving as a bridge for cooperation for exhibitors around the world.

The exhibits at the expo covered various species of agricultural products and food commodities, such as fresh fruit and vegetables, snacks, beverage, medicinal herbs, as well as tea.

Representative cultural performances from different countries were also staged to help visitors better understand the culture of participating countries.

Additionally, this year's event also included forums and business promotions to focus on resource mobilization and the greater involvement of exhibitors, in an effort to help them reach more deals.

According to the organizing committee, the expo, covering an exhibition area of 30,000 square meters, gathered 402 enterprises from 18 countries and regions including South Korea, Japan, Russia, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Half of the exhibitors came from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

"This is our second time participating in the Weihai food expo. The ice cream and juice we brought last year were very popular and sold out on the second day. This year we have reached initial cooperation agreements with several enterprises," said Bodgan, an exhibitor from Russia.

"We hope to establish a mutually beneficial partnership with Chinese enterprises."
