A group of reporters from 26 media agencies started an interview tour in Yantai, East China's Shandong province on April 16 to highlight its thriving marine industry.

The activity focuses on in-depth interviews on the modern marine industry, marine biomedicine, coastal tourism, marine ranching, and the construction of modern fisheries.

Several media agencies, including people.com.cn, xinhuanet.com, chinadaily.com.cn, and thepaper.cn will travel to Yantai for three days to report on its vigorous marine economy.

Yantai focuses on marine engineering equipment manufacturing and the development of the marine biology industry, and has launched 16 projects costing a total of 9.8 billion yuan ($ 1.58 billion).

The city will soon begin developing marine ranching. Last year, the total output value of the city's fisheries exceeded 100 billion yuan, up 9 percent year-on-year. As for its tourism industry, the total number of domestic and overseas tourists and total tourism consumption increased by 10 percent and 15 percent respectively.

Yantai will continue to promote innovation within its three major traditional industries: marine culture tourism, modern fishing and ocean transportation logistics. It will also continue focusing on ocean engineering equipment manufacturing, marine biological medicine and seawater utilization.
