As the host city of the G20 Summit and the upcoming 2022 Asian Games, Hangzhou offers unprecedented opportunities for development not just for China but for the whole world.
In 2018, Hangzhou designated September 5 as International Day to mark the anniversary of the closing of the 2016 G20 Summit, which was held in the city. It has become a permanent annual event designed to raise the city's international profile.
In recent years, Hangzhou has made great progress in promoting globalization. The city successfully held a series of international meetings, such as the World Council Meeting of the United Cities and Local Governments and Metropolises, as well as ministerial conferences among BRICS countries.
The city was also the host of the 2018 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m), which is the biggest international sports event that has taken place in Hangzhou to date.
