Tie Ning, vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, led a team to Central China's Hubei province from Oct 20 to 23 to conduct surveys on revisions to the Law on the Standard Spoken and Written Chinese Language and the Teachers Law.
Tie acknowledged the commitment of Hubei, a province strong in science and education, to consistently prioritizing the development of education and pushing forward the integrated reform of talent cultivation in education, science and technology in a coordinated manner for the high-quality development of the educational sector.
It is imperative to implement the decisions made by the Communist Party of China Central Committee on work related to the spoken and written Chinese language and on the cultivation of professional teachers to build China into a powerhouse in education, Tie said, calling for continued efforts in innovation and comprehensive reform in education.
She underlined the necessity of promoting the revisions to the Law on the Standard Spoken and Written Chinese Language and the Teachers Law and maximizing the rule of law in consolidating foundations, ensuring stable expectations and delivering long-term benefits, so as to make new contributions to Chinese modernization with a strong education sector.
During their stay in Hubei, the team listened to reports by relevant local government departments as well as suggestions on revisions to the laws put forward by representatives of schools, experts, scholars and deputies to people’s congresses at various levels.
They also conducted on-site surveys in Enshi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture and Wuhan to learn about progress in the popularization and education of the standard spoken and written Chinese language and the cultivation of teachers.
