Ji Bingxuan, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), led an inspection on forging a bond between small household farmers and the development of modern agriculture in East China's Zhejiang province, from Nov 12 to 17.
At a meeting on Nov 16, the inspection team heard a report on Zhejiang's efforts to help small farmer households become better integrated with the development of modern agriculture by improving their capacities in large-scale operation, organized production and technical skills, as well as broadening their access to commercial services.
Ji fully acknowledged the progress made by Zhejiang to link farmers with the development of modern agriculture, noting that the province should strive to explore an agricultural management system suitable to the country's agricultural conditions, promote the high-quality development of new-type agricultural operation entities, raise the organizational level of small farmer households and accelerate the building of specialized and commercial service mechanisms oriented toward farmers.
He also urged for efforts to deepen the connectivity among all stakeholders in agricultural production and operation, ensure the stable and sustainable growth of farmers' incomes, bolster policy support for agricultural affairs and farmers, further optimize policies for farmers, intensify the utilization of agricultural technologies and facilities, and assist farmers in managing their agricultural production and operation with a modern approach.
During the inspection, the team also visited the cities of Jinhua, Wenzhou, Taizhou, Shaoxing and Hangzhou to learn more about the efforts made by local governments to promote rural vitalization, as well as in the building of a beautiful countryside, the development of rural collective economy, and the utilization of agricultural science and technologies.
