Vice-chairpersons of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhang Chunxian, Ji Bingxuan, Arken Imirbaki and Cai Dafeng attended the first plenary session of its inspection team for the enforcement of China's Law on Popularization of Science and Technology in Beijing on April 11.

After hearing reports by law enforcement bodies, Imirbaki said the current law is the first of its kind in the world dedicated to the popularization of science and technology and has played a vital role in improving people's scientific literacy and promoting economic growth and social development.

During the enforcement inspection of the law, the first since it came into force 20 years ago, efforts are needed to make good use of the NPC's supervisory power granted by the Constitution with focuses on achieving goals and solving problems, and review the performance of statutory duties, according to Imirbaki.

To address main problems arising in the law enforcement, it's also important to solicit opinions and suggestions, and speed up its revision in order to boost law-based and high-quality popularization of science and technology, said Imirbaki.
