Xu Jinghe, deputy commissioner of the China National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), met with a delegation led by A. Carsten Damsgaard, Ambassador of Denmark to China on Sept 10. Heads of relevant departments and NMPA-affiliated institutions participated in the meeting.

Since establishment of the China-Denmark Food and Drug Regulatory Cooperation Center in May, 2017, China and Denmark have deepened collaboration in the field of drug regulation, said Xu. The project proposal for strategic sector cooperation on drugs and medical devices signed by the NMPA and the Danish Medicines Agency in this January has laid out the future direction and field of bilateral cooperation.

The first meeting of the China-Denmark steering committee on strategic sector cooperation projects of drugs and medical devices adopted a three-year work plan from 2019 to 2021, targeting such areas as drug review, testing, inspection and medical device supervision. The plan will be carried out by means of joint seminars, information and technical exchanges, personnel visits and training. Cooperation between China and Denmark in drug regulation is extensive and effective.

Xu also introduced the Vaccine Administration Law and the newly revised Drug Administration Law and briefed the Danish delegation on policies such as priority review and approval and acceptance of data from overseas clinical trials.

Damsgaard  said that Denmark was one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. In 2008, China and Denmark established the comprehensive strategic partnership in which health and drug regulation were identified as key cooperation fields. Next year marks the 70th anniversary of establishment of China-Denmark diplomatic relations. Denmark is considering future cooperation plans and hopes that the two sides will further expand and upgrade their collaboration on the existing basis.

The two sides agreed to continue working together to achieve more beneficial results.
