Caring for seniors has long been a priority of the government of the Chongchuan Economic Development Zone in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province.
One of the measures taken by authorities to improve elderly services is to upgrade household facilities.
Authorities previously launched a campaign in 2019 to improve the facilities in the homes of the elderly. All expenses were covered by the government.
To date, the upgrading of household facilities for 500 eligible families in the zone has been completed.
Wu Jinquan, one of the beneficiaries of the campaign, said that the local government has upgraded his household facilities for water, electric and gas, and this has greatly improved his living environment.
This year, the zone plans to improve the homes of 200 seniors who live alone, and renovations for 134 of them have already been completed, according to a staff at the local civil affairs bureau.
