Chongchuan plans to build demonstration area for river regulation
Chongchuan district, Nantong, Jiangsu province is expected to build a demonstration area for improving the water environment in 2020. It will cover an area of 100 square kilometers.
This year, the district plans to focus on improving the water environment in the Guanyin Mountain subdistrict, and a dozen projects related to river regulation will be carried out throughout the district.
The water environment around Haohe River, as well as 66 sq km of surrounding area, was improved last year. Still water in these areas has been transformed into flowing currents through the upgrading of some facilities, such as water gates.
A new model, integrating systematic management, targeted arrangements, and regional governance, has been adopted as well, which will allow the newly flowing water to be maintained.
In addition, the treatment of polluted rivers in villages will be accelerated and most polluted rural rivers are expected to be returned to their natural state by the end of this year.
A three-level network has been formed around the city that includes large rivers, major channels, and waterways. An intelligent monitoring system has also been set up to carry out scientific tasks and remotely control the improvement of the water environment in the city.
