Courses for opera singers were launched in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province, on Sept 25.

The opera courses, sponsored by Nantong municipal bureau of culture, broadcasting, television, and tourism and the Chinese Theater Literature Association, are aimed at improving the professional competence of the city's opera singers and helping them gain some more creative experience.

During the three-day courses, seven national experts will give lectures, offer classes, and organize seminars with local opera singers. The content involves introduction to literature and art, the theory of opera, and creative practice about drama, Yue Opera, dance drama, and musicals.

It is the 11th year that Nantong has offered such courses and the fourth year that the city has partnered with the Chinese Theater Literature Association. In recent years, Nantong has valued the creation of literary works, leading to the emergence of numerous opera plays, including the drama Biography Zhang Jian, the dance drama Bing's Words, and the Pingtan show Girl in a Wheelchair.
