All five berths of the liquid chemicals terminal at Yangkou Port – located in Rudong county, Nantong city, in East China's Jiangsu province – have been completed and are now operating.

This enables a small fleet of liquid chemicals ships to berth there at the same time, according to security head Guan Jianbo.

The liquid chemicals terminal, one key supporting project of Yangkou Port's port-centered industry, was completed in two phases. Phase I included the G1, G2 and G3 berths – which comprise two 5,000-metric ton and one 10,000-ton capacity facilities.

Phase II included the G4 and G5 berths, both with capacity to hold 50,000-ton vessels.

Phase II of the project passed acceptance at the end of November and the annual throughput capacity of the liquid chemicals terminal can now top 4 million tons, according to Guan.

The liquid chemicals terminal will focus on providing raw material transportation services for major industrial projects.

The G1 berth is mainly engaged in acrylonitrile storage, serving enterprises including SNF Floerger. The G2, G3, G4 and G5 berths mainly support the Tongkun project – to meet its liquid bulk transportation needs.

With the opening of all five berths of the terminal, the number of berths open to the public at Yangkou Port has reached seven.

This is regarded as being a massive step for Yangkou to further promote its seawards economy channels.
