The Spring Festival is a traditional Chinese holiday. The season of holidays is the season of peak consumption. During the Chinese New Year's holiday, which lasted from Jan 31 to Feb 6, Haimen district of Nantong city in East China's Jiangsu province witnessed a strong wave of consumer spending.

"According to the statistics we received, the sales volume of 12 sampling enterprises in Haimen reached 32.39 million yuan ($5.09 million) from Jan 31 to Feb 6," said Zhou Miaomiao, an official of the district's bureau of commerce.

Answering to the call of epidemic control and measures during the Spring Festival holiday, a large number of residents chose to stay in Haimen to celebrate the festival. Shopping malls, supermarkets, and commercial complexes in the district seized the opportunity, rolled out special offers to attract more visitors, and boosted consumer expenditure.

The ongoing Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games promoted the ice-snow industry consumption craze. Ski equipment, ski suits, winter jackets, and other products were sought out by shoppers.

A gourmet market was launched at the Liuxiban Street, a famous tourist attraction in Haimen, during the Spring Festival holiday. With access to various kinds of dishes and snacks, the event attracted around 140,000 visitors in total.

In addition to cuisine, the market also hosted folk culture and handcrafts catching the eyes of children.
