The Haimen production center of HIDAN Co, a Japanese manufacturer of cosmetics containers, will start construction at the end of 2020 and cost $100 million, local media reported on June 10.
The center will cover an area of 6.67 hectares and become the company's largest production center in terms of annual production capacity.
HIDAN Co was founded in 1950 and is based in Tokyo, capital of Japan. It currently operates two production centers in Chiba, Japan and Kunshan, East China's Jiangsu province.
It is the world's number one producer of high-end lipstick containers in terms of market share, mainly supplying cosmetics giants such as Shiseido, Chanel, and Estee Lauder.
Due to increasing demand, production lines in Chiba and Kunshan have been operating at full capacity since 2018, resulting in the company's decision to establish another production center in China.
Several cities, including Yangzhou and several in Zhejiang province, were taken into consideration, but the company eventually chose the Haimen Economic and Technological Development Zone as the home for its new center.
"We were touched by the hospitality of local government officials," said Kawai Takaaki, head of the Haimen production center.
What's more important is the city's advantageous geography and strong development potential.
"Haimen is located near Kunshan, so it will be more convenient for workers from the two centers to communicate and interact with each other. The city also boasts an advanced transportation network, allowing products to be delivered overseas in an efficient manner," said Kawai Takaaki.
