(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2018-07-19

The former residence of Han Guojun is located on East street of Haian, Jiangsu province. Han Guojun, a famous patriot and democrat, was born in 1857 and died in 1942. His style name was Zishi and his hometown was Haian. He was the governor of Jiangsu province for two terms.

Covering an area of 7,500 square meters, his former residence is a well-preserved and typical building complex with late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) style. All the main rooms have seven purlins and five bays, with a complete set of halls, bungalows, corridors and chambers, built along one central axis. Each yard is separated by a patio, and connected by an ambulatory. The small parlor shaped like a train carriage in the backyard garden is styled with German architecture.

Liu Shaoqi, Chen Yi and Han Guojun discussed the joint anti-Japanese plan here. In September 1940, Chen Yi proposed to Han Guojun a consultative meeting about stopping the civil war and collectively resisting Japan. The meeting played an important role in uniting local powers to jointly resist Japan and achieving victory for the New Fourth Army at the battle of Huangqiao. The former residence of Han Guojun is now the Haian Museum. In May 2013, it was included in the seventh group of national major historical and cultural protection sites by the State Council.
