The first batch of five pharmaceutical enterprises that were set up in the Yangshan Special Comprehensive Bonded Zone in Lin-gang Special Area, Shanghai on Dec 2 is expected to help turn the zone into a biomedical industry innovation hub.

The companies are: Shanghai Pharma International Supply Chain Co Ltd, Novo Nordisk (Shanghai) Pharma Trading Co Ltd, OcuMension (Shanghai) Supply Chain Co Ltd, SciClone Supply Chain Management Co Ltd and Shengding Pharma Co Ltd.

The Yangshan Special Comprehensive Bonded Zone, the first of its kind in the country, implements open policies and institutional innovation carriers that require high degree of openness. Imports and export do not need to go through the customs declaration system, and unilateral declarations are implemented in the bonded area.

"We hope to shorten the supply chain time," said Song Lulu, general manager of Shanghai Pharma International Supply Chain Co Ltd.

Song noted that the company can bring innovative drugs into China through the bonded area and deliver the best products to Chinese patients quickly through efficient supply chain management services.

Song said that the enterprise development incentive policies, preferential tax system and high-end talent retention policies of Lin-gang have provided much support to enterprises.

The 4.5-square-kilometer Life Science Blue Bay, which is focused on biomedicine, high-end medical devices and international medical services, has also opened in the Lin-gang Special Area. Over 50 enterprises with a total investment of more than 34 billion yuan ($5.2 billion) have either been established or signed contracts to operate in the bay.
