Shanghai International Port (Group) Ltd Co and four members of THE Alliance signed an agreement on the SIPG Lin-gang container depot pilot project on June 23.

In the initial stage of the project, the export containers of some shipping lines will be guided firstly to be aggregated at the Luchaogang central container depot. SIPG will take charge of the secondary delivery after appointment, then arrange the arrival of container trucks when the Donghai Bridge is quiet to ease traffic jams at the bridge and at Yangshan Port.

With the rapid development of container business in Shanghai Port, Yangshan Deep-water Port, as the most important of Shanghai ports, has in recent years kept increasing the volume of containers entering and leaving. In 2019, the container throughput of Yangshan Port reached 19.808 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent unit), of which the Yangshan automatic terminal reached 3.27 million TEUs.

Donghai Bridge is the only land collection and distribution channel for Yangshan Port, meaning it is under huge transport pressure.

The SIPG Lin-gang container depot pilot project will help ease the jams on Donghai Bridge, improve Shanghai's investment businesses and reduce logistics costs.

The project will start on July 1, 2020. The pilot airline for the first three months of the preliminary trial period will be ECI airline of THE Alliance, and the cooperation wharf will be Shangdong branch of SIPG (Yangshan Phase IV automatic terminal). The model is free during the trial.
