China-made Tesla is coming soon

New progress has been made in the construction of Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory. The main body of the factory has been completed. The key workshops for stamping, spraying and assembly are already capable of production. The white bodies of the first trial cars are rolling off the production line. The domestic version of Model III will be ready to use at the end of 2019.

Yuan Guohua, president of Lingang Group from Shanghai, said that Shanghai Lin-gang is accelerating the layout of key areas of the industrial chain, such as lightweight materials and a "three-power" system related to Tesla projects, and striving to create a complete new energy automobile industry ecology.

While the Tesla project continues to advance, Lin-gang Special Area has further developed the intelligent connected vehicle industry. On Sept 26, 24 key projects involving manufacturing, application, service and functional platforms were signed, involving investment of nearly eight billion yuan ($1.14 billion).

The automobile industry is important for the layout and development of Lin-gang Special Area. In 2018, the total industrial output value of Lin-gang automobile and parts industry reached 38 billion yuan, surpassing the electric power equipment industry to become the highest value manufacturing industry in the special area.

Lin-gang Special Area has built Shanghai Lin-gang Intelligent Connected Vehicle Integrative Testing Demonstration Zone. The closed testing and experience area covers seven square kilometers. The demonstration zone has formed 26.1 km of open test roads for unmanned driving and can simulate different traffic environments such as expressways, urban areas, rural areas, logistic parks and warehousing. Relying on the construction of an unmanned comprehensive demonstration zone, Shanghai has gathered together many well-known high-tech enterprises.
